Thomas Scott Adams
An entrepeneur and beverage specialist,
Thomas Scott Adams has a widely acclaimed knowledge of wine and spirits as well as a keenly developed passion for all things related to the food and beverage industry. His unique style has lead to hundreds of public speaking engagements across the country as well as several interviews on nationally syndicated internet and cable radio talk shows. In his 25 years in the industry, Thomas has accumulated vast experience in retail, restaurant, distribution and marketing sides of fine wine and spirits, and has brought his down-to earth approach of teaching to thousands of people across the Country, both novice and expert alike.
At the age of 15, Thomas got his first job in a local restaurant owned by a Frenchman who had a passion for fine wine. Over the next 5 years this curiosity grew until at the age of 20 he attained a position with a major wine retailer, ultimately becoming the manager of a local fine wine and spirits shop. At an age when most of his friends were only interested in party beverages, Adams was branching out, purchasing his first premium wines and spending time in the California wine country and ultimately the European wine regions.
After 4 years in retail, feeling the need to grow, Adams became a restaurant manager for 5 years giving him the opportunity taste a large variety of wines, assemble wine lists and started giving classes to teach his staff about fine wine and food pairing.
The next step was toward the wholesale side of the industry, so Thomas started a new career at the bottom of the ladder with a distribution company as a merchandiser then working his way up through several different companies eventually attaining a position as regional wine specialist and director of wine education, seminars which expanded to cover the ‘History of the Mrtini’ Single Malt Scotch, Bourbon, Tequila and other spirits from around the World. Adams’ unpretentious way gave him a reputation of taking the intimidation out of the topics he teaches to let people know that they don’t have to be a ‘Silver Spoon’ to enjoy and learn about wine and spirits.
After 12 years of working for large distributors, an opportunity presented itself to work on the wholesale portion of the supply chain, directly representing wineries and distilleries through various distribution companies in the Western States. This change in career path lead to Adams leading teams in sales ‘Blitzes’ (An industry term for a short period time with high focus on a single product line) in over a dozen different States across America for a well known California winery. Along the way, numerous winery representatives made comments about how nice it would be to have that luxury, if only they could afford it. This lead to a life altering epiphany: Why not provide this service to a wide variety of wine and spirits companies on a temporary basis? So Adams found two partners who believed in the concept and formed ‘BevBlitz’, a service company that can provide an extra layer of sales representation available anytime, anywhere.
