John King
After stints at Marineland at the Pacific, and a couple of restaurants in San Diego during his college days, John King found his passion for wine at the still very alive Chez Melange Restaurant in Redondo Beach. When he started at Chez in 1984, the restaurant was on the cutting edge for wine programs — offering corked-finished varietal wines-by-the-glass at a time when most were still offering 4-liter jug wines.
In 1991, King made the transition to wholesale wine sales, going to work at Wine Warehouse, covering the Beverly Hills/West Hollywood territory for 14 years. In 2005, he left Wine Warehouse and distributor sales for the supplier side of the industry, going to work for Remy Cointreau, USA.
At Remy, King was part of the creation of their first wine division, responsible for Southern California as their Fine Wine Market Manager. Remy had a premium portfolio of mostly import wines and Champagnes. John King had the responsibility of managing distributors and growing sales of such brands as, Piper-Heidsieck, Charles Heidsieck, Masi, Vietti, Domaine Laroche, Biondi Santi, Barone Ricasoli, and Bearboat.
